The Parish of St. John the Baptist, Carlton : Parish Safeguarding Policy Statement

We the people of this parish church commit ourselves to the nurture, protection, and safekeeping of the children, young people and vulnerable adults in our care

The church is committed to follow the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham Policy for Child Protection, and the House of Bishops’ Policy, ‘Protecting all God’s Children’ (2004) which is the Child Protection Policy for the Church of England.

The PCC accepts the intention of the Children Act (1989) and subsequent legislation that the welfare of the Child, and of vulnerable persons is paramount.  We will work towards that code of good practice when working with children and vulnerable people and try to create a culture of ‘thoughtful, informed vigilance’ which everyone in the church, young and old, takes seriously.

We have a Health & Safety Policy in place & under regular annual  review.

The Parochial Church Council will accept responsibility for recruitment of volunteers to work with children and vulnerable people and ensure that each one receives a copy of this parish policy and is familiar with the policy, procedure and guidelines in place for our church.

We acknowledge that all church members have a responsibility to do their best to prevent physical, sexual or emotional abuse of children and vulnerable people and to report any abuse, alleged or suspected.

We will ensure that all those who have any responsibility for children or vulnerable persons obtain an ‘Enhanced Disclosure’ from the Criminal Records Bureau.

We will respond without delay to any complaints made, that a child or vulnerable person for whom we are responsible has been or may have been harmed.

There is a child protection Named Person to work with the Incumbent and the PCC to implement policy and procedures.

The PCC will display a copy of this policy statement in a prominent place on church premises so that all may be aware of its existence.

This policy statement will be renewed annually and progress in carrying it out will be monitored by the child protection Co-ordinator (the “Named Person”) who is:

Miss Jane Cook, who can be contacted (address is given on the Church Notices)  Telephone Nottingham 9582823

or her asssistant Co-ordinator, who is Mr. Michael Singh, Tel 9107946
